Let’s face it… swapping out your old anti-perspirant for a natural deodorant is a definitely challenge!
I made the switch-a-roo {baptism-by-fire style} back in 2009 – after finding out I had Breast Cancer at 31, with no family history . My doctors told me it was probably caused by lifestyle + environmental factors… meaning, it was most likely what I was putting in + on my body. Scary stuff. So, I knew I had to change everything.
I’ll be honest… at the time, I didn’t even know what the difference between deodorant + anti-perspirant were. To me, it was all… deodorant. I thought they were really just different names for the same thing. Boy, did I have a lot to learn. Apparently, anti-perspirant essentially stops you from sweating by blocking your sweat glands {trapping toxins in}, + deodorant allows you to sweat – but deodorizes it.
As a matter of fact, when I found out I had Cancer, someone forwarded an email to my Mom about Aluminum + Parabens being found in the tumor tissue of Breast Cancer patients… so, naturally – this was one of the first things I swapped out… and, with a quickness {that’s actually how this blog was born}!
I’m not gonna lie… it wasn’t easy. But, I haaaad to do it. And, once I got through the first few weeks – I was fine.
Take the Deodorant Detox Challenge!
I know many of you might have tried switching over, but may have given up because… you were: super- sweaty, soaked, stunk, or whatevs. I hear you. I’ve been there, + it sucks.
What you need to know though, is that if you’ve been using anti-perspirant for years + years {like I was}, your body absolutely neeeeeeds to go through a transition period in order to detox properly… the way nature intended it to… by sweating. And, during that time, body odor usually increases as our bodies release the build up of toxins, + eventually levels out. Totally gross, I know. I’m sorry. But, if I can do it… so can you!
