Breast Cancer Prevention

Despite the billions of Pink Ribbon dollars, were still no closer to a cure + there are still no perfect screening tools for Breast Cancer, especially for those of us that are younger, + have really dense tissue! So, I highly recommend Self-Breast Exams each month because nobody knows your body better than you do! Personally I like to us an app to remind myself each month, like, Check Yourself, or the Your Man Reminder. For a funny little “how-to”, check out this video!

Back in 2009, I found a lump, went to the doctor, + they told me not to worry about it + to go home, because I was too young! Luckily, I didn’t listen, because about 2 months later, I was a Breast Cancer Survivor at 31! So, trust your gut + be your own advocate! Read more about my story, here.

Breast Cancer Prevention

Organizations + Resources

Some amazing Breast Cancer Organizations + Resources I support, but didn’t know about at the time are Breast Cancer Action, Think Before you Pink, Keep-a-Breast, Non-Toxic Revolution, Breast Cancer Fund, ReThink Breast Cancer, + Unite For HER {disclosure: I’m their Health + Beauty Advisor}.

My opinion on donating to organizations is a bit skewed, as I was unable to receive any help from any of them when going through treatment, or in the aftermath, when trying to pick up the pieces of my life! I was shocked because I’d raised a lot of money for them, volunteered, did all the walks, + even wore a pink ribbon throughout college. But, there were literally no resources for people my age. Like, none! I was too old to fall into the Childhood Cancer Group, + too young for the “real” Cancer-age Group. I was even told not to go to support groups because the people in them were much older + dying, + they would resent me because I wasn’t. I couldn’t even get counseling! I was devastated.

So, I say, your best bet is to donate to one of the organizations I mentioned above, or directly to a Survivor! Buy them a bag of fresh, organic groceries, a Grocery Store Gift Card, or help them pay a bill {cell phone, internet, car insurance, rent, utilities, student loans, etc.}. They usually really need it, but will never say so. The stress of not being able to get the things you need, guilt of mounting bills, or burden to those around you is insane, + can sometimes feel worse than the Cancer itself! The reality is, 5 years later, I still have crazy “preventative” expenses. Every last penny I have goes to doctors I want to see, tests I want to get + Treatment choices I have made, because they aren’t covered by insurance! If you’d like to help with those expenses, you can donate to my Green Juice Fund!

Throughout my experience over the past few years, I’ve put my whole heart + soul into The GG, to try to help as many others as I can – to avoid the heartache I’ve had to go through. Possibly, from not knowing what the chemicals in my food, beauty products + lifestyle were doing to my body. In the process, I’ve had the opportunity to meet tons of like-minded people, try products I’d never dreamed of + work with amazing companies whose values are aligned with mine.

So, I’ve partnered with some of the best in the Green Beauty Biz to give you the same opportunities I’ve had with taking those first steps + trying better beauty products! I wanted to let you know how much I really appreciate YOU… so I’m giving away almost three thousand dollars worth of amazing, natural + organic beauty products! Thank you for all the love + support (it means the world to me), for always reading what I write, oh – and teaching me a thing or two, every now + then. Haha. You’re ALL winners in my book! Love you guys!

    Dear Danielle,

Thank you for this giveaway, your blog and for sharing your story!
I use your blog as a reference when I want to buy natural products. For example, your sunscreen guide this summer was very useful. I learned about Miessence sunscreen, bought it and liked it.
I would like to win Keeki Pure and Simple collection, because I always wanted to try their nail polish. Since switching to organic and natural products in food and skincare for health reasons, I could only afford to focus mainly on food and skincare, not so much on beauty products/make up. It would be nice to try Keeki, I heard good things about this brand. Thanks!

I love this giveaway. Thank you for doing it and sharing your story. I am a 4 year cancer survivor. I was diagnosed in 2010 with invasive ductal carcinoma (breast cancer) at the age of 28. After educating myself more about products and chemicals, I find organic products to be essential!
